SILVER HALIDE

A silver halide is the chemist’s name for a compound made of the precious metal silver and one of the halogens, which reside in the second from the right column or group, of the Periodic Table. They are "The Workhouse of the Holography Business" according to Nick Phillips.  The earliest holograms of Gabor, Denisyuk, and Leith & Upatnieks were recorded on this type of material.

Here is a collection of instruction sheets and published papers from the major manufacturers of AgX holographic recording materials.  Some of these were major players in the photography industry, like Kodak, Agfa and Ilford; some others, like Ultimate and BB/Colour Holographics, simply coat for the holographers!
